Explanations by Master Luong Si Hang – Vi Kien about the mantra Nam Mô A Di Đà Phật
(Excerpt from the Seminar “Kinh A Di Da” (The Sutras of the Buddha A Di Da) held in Melbourne, Australia, 1986)
Therefore, the explanations about Nam Mo A Di Da Phat can be developed infinitely, but we must practice the Vô Vi method before being able to understand. We must return to serenity in order to comprehend the original meaning. If we lack serenity, if we are still mired in infatuations and intransigence, we will only misinterpret the original meaning of Nam Mo A Di Da Phat, and we will not make any progress.
Therefore, all spiritual adepts must remember to mentally invoke Nam Mo A Di Da Phat continuously in order to re-establish a clear spiritual path. We have seen clearly, that it takes an eternity to form a human body on earth. The physical body is created by the supernatural.
It takes a very long time to take a human form.... before the soul can descend on earth. There have been many transformations from one form to another, from one state to another, in order to create a physical body.
Now, if we want to return, how can we return to our true homeland? We must unite all our fluxes of energy. These energies also come from all kinds of mental states and they must be distilled in order to return to purity and lightness. Then, they will transform into a spiritual body able to ascend higher, and exit the physical body. This is called “travel by the soul”.
This requires innumerable days and hours of perseverance in your spiritual perfection. But how do we perfect ourselves spiritually? Does it mean to sit like a rock? No! We must use our consciousness to mentally invoke the mantra. We must have a sincere heart and practice in a righteous manner. We must clearly understand the way to return to our spiritual origin. To open the source of the heart-dharma, we must invoke Nam Mo A Di Da Phat. The more we invoke the six phonemes mentally and continuously, the more we will unite our energies and return to purity and lightness.
What will this purity and lightness bring to you? When all our mental states return to purity and lightness, we will become intelligent. This is an extraordinary intelligence. An intelligence that we have never imagined that we could possess!
Currently, among our Vô Vi practitioners around the world, many people have attained such intelligence. One simple example is the ability to create poems! In the past, they were unable to do it. Nowadays, they can do it. In the past, they do not comprehend the Truth fully, nowadays, they can explain the Truth in a very comprehensive manner. Where does this ability come from? Isn’t it coming from the assiduous and perseverant practice of the spiritual adept. He has thoroughly understood all the states within his body or microcosm, and is able to harmonize with the original principle of Nam Mo A Di Da Phat.
The mental invocation of Nam Mo A Di Da Phat does not teach us in one single aspect only, but in all ones, because our consciousness will harmonize with everything, and we will develop our spiritual energy and understand all things thoroughly. Only then will we be truly serene. Therefore, we have been deluded when descending on earth. We are tricked by our four senses and our five internal organs. They have been attacked by the impure energies. Residing on earth, we have been polluted by earthly dust since many years, many months, many periods, and we thought that all these things were real.
Today, we know the technique to disentangle ourselves. Thus, we must hold that key to detach ourselves. What is that key? It is the principle of Nam Mo A Di Da Phat. However, why do we have to mentally invoke Nam Mo A Di Da Phat instead of invoking 1 2 3 4 5 6? The phonemes Nam Mo A Di Da Phat generate energy vibrations, so they are different from invoking 1 2 3 4 5 6, as I have often explained.
Now, I repeat clearly, so that you may sit here and ponder by yourselves. When you mentally invoke N…A….M, the vibration lasts a long time. It has a departure point and a focus point which is exactly at the middle point between the eyebrows. M..O…. This vibration will go to the center point at the top of the head and disperses its energy to harmonize with the whole universe. A… The vibration will go a full circle from the Yang meridian to the Yin meridian, before concentrating its energy in the brains. D…I …. The 3 energies (seminal essence energy, vital energy, spirit) will unite, and these energies will form the spiritual Buddha sign on our chest (“Vạn”)/ It means we have mastered the heart-dharma. D..A…our brains and all our skin pores will form an aura and harmonize with the pure energy from the World Above which is absorbed into our physical body. P..H..A..T… When you invoke PHAT, the energy vibration will concentrate at the navel. It means that we know ourselves. “All four oceans must unite”. When we are born, we already have Heaven and Earth, but we were not aware of it.
Now, the more we perfect ourselves spiritually, the more we will understand our own affairs. We will understand our own microcosm. We understand that we have an eternal place capable of transforming and concentrating spiritual energy, and we are the Master of this microcosm. We are the Master of our soul. Only then will we be able to control and fully develop our consciousness of harmony in order to save and guide humanity.
The Buddhas and the Immortals have succeeded through their spiritual practice. As followers, we must also practice and perfect ourselves spiritually. We should not ask for favors. If we ask for favors, we can hire people to practice in our place, and we do not need to perfect ourselves spiritually. We must cultivate ourselves spiritually with our own efforts and not depend on someone else to do it for us. Only then will we arrive at our goal.
Many people say that if one does not recite prayers, if one does not burn incense, if one does not kneel before Buddha, how can one understand the Tao? But they do not understand where the Tao resides. The Tao resides in our consciousness, and not in a place of worship. It does not reside in the incense stick. It does not reside on the street. The Tao is inside our consciousness!
What should we do now? We must cultivate our consciousness. We must rectify our consciousness. We must know how our consciousness is connected to the World Above. Therefore, we have the principle of Nam Mo A Di Da Phat that Master Tu has explained very clearly. He has researched in depth and we have read his writings and awakened ourselves. Now, depending on the level you have attained through the practice of the Vô Vi method, you will first purify yourselves, then you will develop your energy, then you will concentrate that energy, and be able to connect to the special flux of energy from above.
Many Vô Vi practitioners have heard about energy. But they do not understand what energy is. Without practicing the silent invocation of Nam Mo A Di Da Phat, one cannot know about spiritual energy. Once you practice the mental invocation, you will clearly be aware of the miraculous transformations. Your mind and spirit will change. Your inner consciousness will develop and become lucid in a natural manner. You will become aware of all upcoming dangerous situations. However, we know that all things must return to emptiness. Our heart is not agitated. All happenings will be resolved clearly. Thus, we are able to remain calm and content. Through advances in society and technology, we see that in the past, life was difficult. People harmed each other.
But now, people respect human rights. We have advanced one step. Whoever wants to cultivate themselves spiritually may do so in calmness and contentment. They are no longer afraid of hunger and suffering. Only those who lack spiritual practice would be suffering.
If we agree to perfect ourselves spiritually, we are releasing our karma, and we are no longer suffering. Karma means to go downward and to attract agitation. It would crush us and cause karma. Those who do not yet perfect themselves spiritually must still hold karma.
The twelve viscera are controlling the Master-Soul. They force the Master-Soul to do all kinds of things, such as drinking, looking for carnal pleasures, all unnecessary tasks. The Master-Soul must participate in rivalries, he must fight for land, but He abandons his own land. What is the land of human beings? It is their “Consciousness”. If they abandon their “Consciousness”, they have no more land. If they abandon their “Consciousness”, they will become greedy for money and act recklessly. They would unknowingly harm and kill their fellow beings, and they would encounter unending misfortunes without knowing it. They do not have a heart!
