HOW TO BE HEALTHY AND HAPPY?

A human being must know that we exist on earth to learn, so we should never be depressed

Q&A Session with Master Vĩ Kiên in Vancouver, Canada (1988)

Why am I younger? Healthier? Because I see more and more each day, that I do not own anything, while those who become older quickly are those who see that they own everything. If they own one thing, they need to worry about it, if they have the other thing, they need to worry about that other thing. As they worry more and more, they will eventually lose their mind, and look much older unknowingly. If I die, I will continue to learn. If I am shot and killed suddenly, I will still continue my learning, and try nothing else.

A human being must be aware that we are all learning, and we are not smarter than the others. If we think that we are smarter than the others, our mind is backward, and we will never make progress. We should learn continually, infinitely. Even The Lord descends on earth in order to learn. He learns how His Children institute the law. Do you see it? As a mother, you also need to learn from your children. It’s true that you are their mother, but now they have learned many things from the modern civilization, so we must learn from them. This is the right path of evolution. Your consciousness will open up, and you will become younger and merrier, and you will be free of illnesses. Don’t say: “I am your mother. I can’t accept to learn from you!” This is wrong. If you play cards and don’t know the set of cards, you can’t defend yourself! Just a simple set of cards! So, we must learn!

Therefore, a human being must know that we exist on earth to learn, and we should never be depressed. Do you see it? Even when we die, we will continue our learning, so we are never discouraged. We do not fear death. We keep learning whether we are alive or dead. When we understand that the soul is eternal, we do not fear death. People wrongly believe that the soul lives forever on earth, so they remain ignorant… The cycle of birth, aging, illness, death, and suffering is very clear, and no one can escape it, but they still say: “Oh, this thing will never die! If you eat this and that, you will never die!” Give it a try! You will die, even if you never get bitten by a mosquito. So, we should not delude other people. We must challenge people that they are coming here to learn and evolve further. Those people who invent such and such medicine for eternal life, only deceive people with their advertisements. In fact, this is not true. Life and death depend on us. We have a car. This physical body is our car. If we know how to use it properly, it will last a little bit longer. But at the given time, it must still fall apart! Do you see it? However, we will never lose our spiritual consciousness, if we are willing to learn. If we keep holding to this physical body, what will it create? It will generate waves of infatuation. You can look at a person’s appearance. Oh, this person is so beautiful, so perfect, but it only generates a temporary wave of infatuation. This is not genuine. If you look at the appearance, there is no real essence. If we understand ourselves and we know our inner selves, we will hold to our genuine essence when leaving this earth. This is our true asset.

The elderly women used to brag: « Oh, this lady has 5 sons, and 4 of them are doctors, so money is pouring in.” They are fascinated.  “Vow, how can this family be so fortunate, money is pouring in!” But they do not ask the question: “What will happen next?” Eventually, they are like us, they also need to learn and evolve further.  Only then will our heart practice equality, we do not generate hatred and jealousy. One bloc is disdaining the other bloc, so they generate hatred and jealousy. They only beat themselves. They hit back at themselves and cause darkness in their minds. They do not open their minds, so they will never advance. They are hindered and unable to see their path.

Therefore, who is a spiritual adept? A spiritual adept must perfect himself spiritually and rectify himself, and not take advantage of the others. A spiritual adept must strive to rectify himself more than an ordinary person. An ordinary person can talk irresponsibly, but a spiritual adept must keep perfecting himself continually. In the morning, we see that we make a mistake, at noon, we make a mistake, then in the evening, we make another mistake. So, we must rectify ourselves continually in order to make progress. The more we correct ourselves, the healthier and merrier we will become. On the other hand, if we refuse to rectify ourselves, our illnesses will increase more and more. The illness of seeking gains, this is a mental illness. We will become more and more ignorant, more and more intransigent and belligerent, and we will have no way to escape. This happens right within the family. There is no need to go out in society or to travel to a certain country to learn. We learn right within our family. Rain, sunshine, sufferings on earth, what are they? They are all lessons for us. To see if we can build our virtue of patience and resignation in order to evolve further. If we refuse to build our virtue of patience and resignation to learn further, we will never advance. If I have money to buy a foreign radio to listen to, but if I do not know how to take it apart, if I do not know how to repair it, if I am not patient enough to investigate how it is built, I will never be able to repair the radio. I use the radio, but I cannot enjoy it. I am exploited by the radio. In contrast, if I understand it thoroughly, it will never be able to take advantage of me.

Therefore, a spiritual adept should strive to rectify his bad character and correct his bad habits in order to know himself thoroughly. At that time, he will clearly see where his true consciousness resides. Aiming directly at one’s true consciousness and seeing one’s character will lead to Buddhahood. Buddhahood means to release one’s karma and attain thorough knowledge. Only by rectifying oneself will one be able to release one’s karma. If we are unable to rectify our soul, how can we release our karma? If we keep turning to the external world, how can we release our karma?

A person wishes to be healthy, but they do not know where the root of health resides. Why? In order to be healthy, one must first ask the question why I am alive? Where does life come from? What is life? To have a family, a house, a car, a terraced villa, is this life? No, not at all! If this universe does not exist, if this universe has no order, life cannot exist! We must ask the questions. But what is this order? If this universe is as chaotic as we are, then everything will be destroyed. It is very orderly.

We should turn within to see if we are already orderly. If we have order and discipline, we will feel healthy and happy. When we enter our home, it will look orderly from top to bottom. When we interact with society, we will bring a good influence, we will bring order and discipline to society. This is a healthy way of life; this is a holistic way of living! In contrast, if people see us and feel hatred, no progress is possible. If they see us and send impure energies into our mind, how can we feel happy? But when they see us, they are happy. If we want that they feel joy when seeing us, we must at first be orderly. When people bring us their agitations, we can rearrange these perturbations in an orderly manner. When they come home, they will correct themselves. They will be happier, and society will become better. This is the way to become strong and healthy. This is true strength and health.

If upon wake-up, we see that things are upside down, i.e., the elder child is disorderly, and the same happens to the younger child, then we look at ourselves, we are yelling, then we also have no order. We only cause agitation inside the whole family. How can we develop ourselves? This is called a mental illness. You do not see the person entering a hospital, but they are sick. When you yell without control, you have a mental illness, and you cannot resolve anything. We must know how to resolve our matters. We must strive to return to order, in order to enjoy happiness. This is the beginner’s level. We should at least maintain some order in social life in order to enjoy some happiness. On the other hand, if we dedicate ourselves to spiritual training, we will be able to experience a greater happiness, and it will flow abundantly and last forever in our consciousness. This happiness is infinitely lively, and it can never be stopped. It is our infinite lucidity.
