Question: Dear Master, why does each individual’s true consciousness have to encounter utmost suffering before seeing clearly the border of the Dharma of Buddha?

Answer by Master Vi-Kien:

Buddha means compassion. Compassion means not to agitate anyone. Whatever worldly people want, they are allowed to achieve their desires before they attain self-awakening. If you want to traverse a city street, but did not finish your route, your heart will not be at peace.

Once you have completely finished your route, you will know which turn to take to make it right. Therefore, the Dharma of Buddha is called Compassion, and it never obstructs the path of others. They must awaken themselves by their own efforts. This is essential.
