EXTRACT OF TEACHINGS BY MASTER VI-KIEN
CLIP#1
Question: Dear Master, in case only either the husband or wife perfects him/herself spiritually, how can we resolve the situation, such that both can make progress and such that the person who does not meditate does not feel unhappy?
Answer: The person who meditates must always be perseverant. If only either the husband or wife perfects him/herself spiritually, then that person must have a strong determination. However, they must have a long-term plan, and not a short-term one. For example, given a 10-year time frame, one must be resolute during these 10 years. Do you see it? But at the beginning, one must be gradual in reducing the sexual intimacy between husband and wife. One cannot interrupt suddenly and cause discord in the family. Do you see it? Even our own body will be restless, because we still have not unblocked all our impure energy. As we gradually purify ourselves, we will advance accordingly.
Once you no longer have any longing, you won’t be able to do anything. You are no longer aroused! However, we must reach a certain level of energy before being able to explain and convince our partner, then we will be able to save both people, and we will maintain a happy relationship which is more beautiful than the one in the past, when we were still deluding ourselves. Therefore, you must persevere. The person who knows about spirituality must persevere and accept to sacrifice a little bit, so that they can lead their non-spiritual partner. Eventually, the non-spiritual person will also turn to spiritual perfection, because there is no other path but the path of spiritual perfection.

This situation is different. We must advance in an orderly manner.
If you have a family, if you have a husband or wife, you must proceed slowly. You should not make a sudden jump, then you will return to the beginning. This is certain.
Many people say that they are spiritual, so they want to travel by soul and leave this earth definitively, and not come back. This is not possible. A simple thought will bring you back. A simple thought will immediately lower your level of pure energy. Therefore, everything must proceed in an orderly manner. We cannot be hasty. If we want to succeed quickly and keep our agitated and shallow thinking, we will certainly fall back. Then we will incur more misery. Slowly, if we have a family, if we have a husband or wife, we must resolve matters gradually. We should not be hasty. Haste will only bring failure.

No one forbids the intimacy between husband and wife. Since you have married your husband, why aren’t you willing to serve his needs? You have taken him, you have chosen him, so you should serve your husband in order to build a virtuous life. We must have an orderly family life before thinking about the spiritual life. You cannot simply say, “Now that I know Vô-Vi, you can go out and flirt with other people!” However, if he flirts with other people, you will certainly kill him. He would say, you have married me, you have taken me in, you cannot abandon me. Do you understand? You should not be resentful. And you should not cause resentment to the other person. Since you are married to your husband, you must fulfill his needs. There is nothing to worry about. Nothing to be afraid of. Our heart is spiritual, we must observe virtue, we should not commit an unrighteous action. When you make your husband unhappy, you are losing your virtuous conduct. You should be good towards your husband and children in order to build your virtue, and then you will be able to cultivate yourself spiritually more easily. Once you have fulfilled your duties as a human, you will be able to accomplish your spiritual duties. Don’t be resentful because of this.

Question: How to perfect oneself spiritually in a right way, how to act in a righteous manner in order to become a virtuous person?
Answer: In order to act righteously, we must fulfill our duties as a human being. As a husband or wife, we should know how to truly love each other and support each other with love and dedication. The same applies if we have children. We must be patient and supportive, and teach our children about our life experiences. We must educate our children with love and sincerity. This is how we create a harmonious environment in the family. We must first fulfill our duties as a human being before accomplishing our spiritual duties. If we neglect our human duties, but keep demanding to accomplish our spiritual duties, this is the wrong way.
Therefore, we see many people who like to cultivate themselves spiritually, but they did it because they hold a grudge against their family, or because they hate their wives. Then, after devoting themselves to spiritual cultivation for a while, they would find another girlfriend, and create additional karma. They would only torment themselves unknowingly. Thus, God has said that humans are all sinful souls. We are already sinful right at our birth.
If you read the Bible, this is explained clearly. We must admit our sins in order to rectify ourselves and advance further. Only then will we be able to direct our mind toward purity and lightness and follow the path of Great Compassion that Heaven and Earth have granted us.
When we have the opportunity to perfect ourselves spiritually, when we talk about the spiritual teachings, when we study the dharma to perfect ourselves, we are receiving the energy of the Great Compassion/The Lord Who bestows His blessings upon us. However, if we lack serenity, we won’t be able to fully receive these blessings. If we only understand a limited aspect but start lecturing with these wrong understandings, we will only create agitation and chaos for all, instead of making progress.
